Colour

My colour scheme would depend on the colours contributed in the main image provided; I would identify the colours in the image and see what other colours would coordinate well with it.

In my colour schemes, the colour I have consistently used is black which is a monochrome, gender neutral colour which associates with power, formality and mystery. This is important as my magazine needs to appeal to both females and males aged 13-35. Therefore, the colour black would be in my magazines considerably.

I matched the first colour scheme with image 1 to create a mysterious sense with the dark colours. This highlights that there's more to the story than meets the eye of the artist 'Carrie Underwood'. The magazine would entail a full exposure of her, meeting the readers’ needs. Also, the dark colours would make the magazine look sophisticated and elegant which would provide the illusion that my magazine is successful and established to the consumer.

The second colour scheme with image 2 consists of the colours black, red, blue and yellow. The artist, Leighton Meester, is American thus the colours are linking the image and the artist together allowing an American theme. Also, most of her songs are patriotic and country. This would attract a large mass of an American audience; this is beneficial as magazines are most successful in America.

The third colour scheme with the third image provides colours of royalty - gold, black, purple and white. This reinforces the idea of Kanye West’s high status in the music industry and demands the consumers to notice the magazine.

Masthead Designs

All of the above are my masthead designs. The fonts I have applied are from 'dafont.com', I thought this site was useful as it contains a variety of different fonts to choose from. In particular, I was looking for a font that would support my multi-genre magazine. I wanted it to have an original aspect that would make it separate from all the other magazines. However, at the same time I wanted it to be basic - I didn't want it to be complicated as my magazine is multi-genre which means the target audience would apply to a large majority (females/males 13-35) compared to other magazines. It has to be simple so it would have a high appeal to all types of people as the music is varied and based on the charts.
Based on this, I have come to the conclusion to choose the first font (BebasNeue) or the last font (Arual).

Production Diary #5

This lesson we had to brainstorm masthead ideas for our music magazines. I contributed a variety of numerous masthead names in my brainstorm that suited my genre (chart magazine). I wanted it to be simple but bold, something related to music and that people would remember. From 'MC' which is an acronym and stands for 'Music Central'to 'Tune Into Radioactive', 'Electra-Heart' and 'Fire Starter' which are phrases and 'Dynamic' which is a connotive musical term that means how loud or quiet the sound is.

I came up with 28 names that could be contributed for my magazine - however, at the moment I am thinking of using 'Dynamic'. I think it is effective in terms of it being related to music, it's simple, bold and doesn't apply to a particular target audience which chart magazines are supposed to do.

I then went on a site named 'dafont.com' which provides a variety of different fonts to choose from. I looked at the basic fonts and chose eight from the variety. Afterwards, I pasted it onto photoshop to see which one I would like the most visually.

So far I am still deciding but I have narrowed it down to three particular fonts.

Masthead Name Ideas

I chose these names as they all relate to my multi-genre music magazine and it would be effective in terms of appealing to my target audience. I wanted to choose names that are different from the ordinairy, I didn't want it to be basic but to have an original sense, thus I want my magazine to be different from the others already out there in the market. I came up with all these names to provide me with an idea of what I could choose from. In the end, I have settled on the name 'Dynamic'. I think it is effective because it is a musical term meaning how loud or quite the sound is. Also, it would appeal to my target audience who is females/males 13-35. I needed the name to have a a large appeal, it couldn't be biased as my target audience is large.

Production Diary #4

On the 30th September 2013, we were given the opportunity to update our blogs and finish or improve work in this unit.

Firstly, I had to ask a peer to read my music magazine proposal and give me feedback to how I can improve and what I did well in the content. Geeta wrote my proposal feedback on microsoft word, to receive this information she saved it on her USB stick which then allowed me to open it on my computer. I thought a good way to post the content on my blog would be through voki. It would be different and interesting rather than the ordinary text that consumes most of my page.

Afterwards, I realised my survey was still incomplete, thus I had to add more questions. I got a few peers to fill out my survey to see what kind of music magazines they appreciate and what they expect from my future music magazine. The results were successful in terms of it meeting my expectations, it was how I wanted my magazine to set out to be.

Nonetheless, there is still work leftover for me to catch up on, for example  my survey results need to be displayed on a powerpoint so I can visually see the standards of how my magazine needs to be. Also, I need to improve my proposal based on the feedback I had gained.

Survey - Music Magazine

This survey allows the audience to have an input of what direction I should take my magazine 'Dynamic'. The questions I have asked are quantive, to grant me to collect data/statistics to view the overall conclusions of what the audience thinks. Also, the type of questions contributed are a mixture of comments and multiple choice - a variety to cover all aspects and to let the reader go in depth detail.

Production Diary #3

On the 24th September we had started our research for our music magazine. We had to investigate who our magazines would be targeted at and write a profile about the typical reader.

As my magazine 'Dynamic' is similar to Rolling Stone and Billboard I researched their target audience. It allowed me to have an insight of who my magazine would be targeted at. After consuming this information, I created a mood board of all the matters my audience would like such as - Dr Dre headphones, a guitar, concert tickets and various bands/singers from numerous different genres.

Afterwards, I did a overall summary of who my target audience will be, then I created a typical user profile of one of my readers 'Debbie' and what her interests would be and so on. Also, I predicted the facts and statistics of my target audience e.g. ABC1 75%.
